STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -

The Washington State Patrol says the man who caused the crash that killed 32-year-old Aaron Huff on Friday, told officers he leaned over in his car to grab a piece of paper.

It is something almost every driver has done and right now, WSP thinks the distraction is what caused the driver to cross over the center line and hit the car driven by Aaron Huff.

“Unfortunately, circumstances sometimes, there is nothing you can do, wrong place, wrong time, unfortunately,” said Trooper Jeff Sevigny with Washington State Patrol. “It just reminds us that being on the roadways is a full time job.”

If there is anything to take away from this tragic accident, it is the reminder of how important it is to pay attention behind the wheel. Even looking away for a split second can be detrimental, whether it be looking at your phone, having a conversation with someone else in your car, or grabbing something like a piece of paper.

WSP says the road was straight where the accident happened and the conditions were dry. Officers also say the driver did not appear to be speeding, so neither weather conditions or reckless driving appear to be the cause.

The driver who caused the accident, 20-year-old Jacob Kraght, was taken to Sacred Heart with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Kraght was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. However, the driver of the other car, Aaron Huff, died as a result of the crash. Huff was wearing a seatbelt.

Aaron Huff was a husband, about to be a dad, but he was also a local artist known as Aaron Gabriel. Business owners we spoke with in Chewelah are also heart broken at his passing. They say he was a great guy and a great musician.

One of the last shows he played was at the ChewVino wine bar in Chewelah. On Facebook before the performance he said, “This will be my first live performance in a good long while, and it might be my last performance in a good long while, since my baby is due in about two weeks.”

Businesses in Chewelah, like ChewVino, are donating a percentage of their sales this weekend to Aaron's wife. They say the best thing we can do as a community right now is rally around her and help in anyway we can.

As for Jacob Kraght, he likely will be cited for the accident, but WSP says he will probably not be charged with any criminal charges because it was simply a horrible accident.
