A House Divided As A Husband And Wife Cheer For Different Teams

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. – It is one thing when a co-worker or friend is rooting for another team, but what happens when it is your own spouse? That is exactly the situation for the James family, with husband and wife cheering for opposite teams in Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Joey and Kim James see eye to eye on a lot of things, but football is not one of them.

“Football has been in my life since I was really young, so I've been a Seahawks fan many, many years,” Kim said.

“I'm a big Broncos fan,” Joey said. “I’ve been a Broncos fan the last 25 to 30 years.”

The rivalry has never been a problem, until now.

“My wife, when we got married, she was a Seahawks fan and I was a Broncos fan and so it's been a dream of ours to have the two teams play,” Joey said.

However, it is not just the husband and wife that are split, the kids are cheering for opposite teams as well.

“My son and I, we're the Broncos fans,” Joey said. “Mom and my daughter Leslie are the Seahawks fans.”

So needless to say, things could get interesting during the Super Bowl.

“It's going to be tense, a little nervous, pretty exciting especially when Peyton throws all those touchdowns,” Joey said.

“I can see us being together munching on food and then all the sudden he's on one side and I'm on the other side,” Kim said.

However, it is all in good fun.

“It's a friendly rivalry, we feel like we won last week when both our teams got into the Super Bowl,” Joey said.

“Down in my heart I want the Seahawks to win, but I'll be okay if the Broncos win too because my husband is a huge Broncos fan,” Kim said. “But, I really want the Hawks to win.”
