SPOKANE, Wash. -

KHQ.COM - A high speed chase ended shortly after 11 on Tuesday morning. The chase, that started in CDA, ended in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Airway Heights. The driver has been taken into custody. Luckily no one was injured.

WSP says Coeur d'Alene police were called to the Denny's in CDA for a suicidal male. When police arrived they say the man ran outside to a local gas station and stole a vehicle running in the parking lot.

Troopers say 33-year-old Michael Tavares led them on a high speed pursuit across state lines and into Airway Heights where the chase ended. Troopers say they deployed spike strips 6 different times during the chase but Tavares still did not stop. Troopers say speed reached in upwards of 80 miles per hour. Troopers performed a pit maneuver near the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Airway Heights and finally got the driver to stop. Tavares now faces several felony charges.
