Hoffman's Funeral To Be Like The Actor: Private

NEW YORK, NY -

NEW YORK (AP) - Philip Seymour Hoffman, who fiercely protected his private life, will be mourned behind closed doors.

A private funeral for the actor will be held Friday for 400 people at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan, the same church that hosted the funerals of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Lena Horne and Aaliyah.

The 46-year-old Hoffman was found dead Sunday of an apparent heroin overdose in his apartment. He leaves behind his partner of 15 years, Mimi O'Donnell, and their three children.

Hoffman was nominated for Academy Awards four times and won the Oscar for best actor in 2006 for his portrayal of writer Truman Capote in "Capote." He also was nominated three times for a Tony Award.

A larger memorial service is being planned for later this month.

PULLMAN, Wash. - Six-year-old Denny Curran should be enjoying his last few days of summer before first grade. He should be teasing his brother, splashing in the pool, giving his parents a hard time about vegetables. Instead, Denny is dead, the victim of a horrific, freak bicycle accident that could happen to your child too. "Denny was an extraordinary child," his father Keith Curran told KHQ.

NEW YORK (AP) - Aretha Franklin is being remembered in part for the empowering message she sent her fellow women through her most famous songs. Especially her call for "a little respect." Franklin didn't see herself as a feminist heroine. But several key songs became known as feminist anthems - especially "Respect." She took the Otis Redding record and changed the meaning radically simply by saying the words in her own voice.
