SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women’s basketball senior guard Kayla Johnson was named to D3hoops.com Team of the Week, after an outstanding weekend in a pair of games in Tacoma.

The Colfax, Wash. native scored total of 52 points in two games, highlighted by a career-high 31 points at Puget Sound. She shot 68.4 percent (13-19) from the field on Friday and 62.5 percent (10-16) from the field on Saturday for a weekend average of 65.7 percent. She averaged 4.5 rebounds in the two games and led the Pirates to their second consecutive sweep at Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran.

Johnson is the first Whitworth women’s basketball player to be named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week this season.

    A slow start doomed the Pirates in a 43-23 loss to George Fox last Saturday in the Pine Bowl.  The Bruins took a 20-0 lead into halftime and withstood Whitworth's efforts in the second half to earn their first win over the Bucs in four tries.
