Gay Rights Protesters Block Idaho Senate Again

Posted: Updated:
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - At least 35 gay rights protesters again blocked two entrances to the Idaho Senate, saying they're willing to be arrested in their effort to convince majority Republican lawmakers to consider a bill promoting anti-discrimination protections.

Thursday's demonstration comes just weeks after 44 protesters were arrested in a similar action and charged with misdemeanor trespassing.

Senators entered the chamber Thursday and voted on bills, without renewed arrests.

Former Idaho Sen. Nicole LeFavour helped organize this latest group, directing their position in the main entrance of the Senate.

LeFavour, Idaho's first openly gay lawmaker, said activists staged this repeat demonstration to speak out against what she called "the Senate's silence on this issue" of updating the Idaho Human Rights Act.

Idaho State Police were monitoring the protest, but by noon hadn't intervened.

OMAK, Wash. - I can picture the Austin Powers bit now.  The people of Omak looking up at the sky and seeing a giant (Fill in the blank innuendo here) just like in 1999's Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. If you're unfamiliar, I'll save you a Google search.  A simple, yet effectively funny joke.  Except the U.S. Navy doesn't see humor in the real-life version at all.
