Colville Police Officer Rex Newport pleaded guilty to multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after several women accused him of sexual misconduct while on duty.

COLVILLE, WASH. - Former Colville Police Officer Rex Newport entered several guilty pleas on Tuesday for having sex while on duty in 2013. Newport entered what is called an "Alford Plea," meaning he is not saying he is guilty, but believes he would be found guilty if the case went to trial.

Newport entered a guilty plea on five charges including residential burglary, unlawful imprisonment with sexual motivation, custodial sexual misconduct in the first degree, making a false or misleading statement to a public servant and official misconduct. Newport is 45 years old and was serving as a Colville Police Officer, but following his conviction he will have to forfeit his badge.

The prosecution says it agreed to a plea deal because there were "significant evidentiary issues" and the victims expressed great concern over having to testify. The victims said they were extremely fearful and reluctant, according to court documents.

Those same court documents talk about how Newport showed up at one of the victim's homes after the bar closed, unexpected and unrequested. The documents say Newport drank some of the victim's alcoholic beverage and then left on another call saying he was going to return soon.

Once he left the victim said she went to her neighbor's house fearful for her safety. She eventually went back to her own house, the documents say, and Rex Newport was waiting inside. At one point the documents say Newport put his handcuffs and buckled his gun belt on the victim, then raped her.

Another victim came forward to the Stevens County Sheriff's Office regarding this case and said that Newport pulled her over several times after she had been "drinking heavily." The documents says that on both occasions Newport declined to investigate the victim for DUI, but told her to follow him to a secluded area where they could have sex. According to the documents the victim said she felt as though she would be arrested for a DUI if she did not have sex with the now former cop.

Newport is set to be sentenced April 1st at the Stevens County Courthouse. The standard sentencing range for the felonies is 22 to 29 months in prison.
