KHQ.COM - A Stevens County school bus slid off the road Wednesday morning, sending up to eight of the students onboard to the hospital, the Mary Walker School District said.

School bus No. 6, which runs the Cemetery Road route, left the roadway and landed on its side, according to dispatchers. The roadway was described as a “sheet of ice” by law enforcement on-scene.

The district said six to eight passengers were taken to the Pediatric Emergency Room at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane with unspecified injuries. School district officials are on scene, according to an alert sent out by administrators, and those with questions can contact Mary Walker by phone at (509) 258-4534.

The district is working to identify the students injured. There were about 27 passengers on the bus when it slid off the roadway, according to the district. Another bus was being sent to the site of the incident to pick up non-injured passengers, according to dispatchers.
