OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. - One man has been arrested in connection to a burglary at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Okanogan, but it is how deputies were able to catch him that has many people asking, "What was he thinking?" Let's just say, if you're planning on committing a burglary somewhere, don't do it while wearing your ankle monitoring bracelet that you are required to wear while waiting to go to prison on other charges.

The press release from the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office really explains it better than I can:

On 03-04-14 at around 9:00 AM Okanogan County Deputies responded to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles located on north 2nd Avenue in Okanogan reference a burglary at the building.

Deputies found at the scene that the suspects had pried open the back door with what looked like crow bar. They also discovered the suspects had cut the phone line once inside and they tried to get into another room but were unsuccessful but did extensive damage to the door. The suspects damaged other doors in the building and were able to pry open a small safe and stole approximately $2000 in cash from it. The suspects attempted to get into another safe and an ATM machine but were unsuccessful.

Deputies then watched surveillance video that is installed at the Eagles. In the video they could see two subjects at the side of the building at approximately 1:43AM. The video shows the suspect, who are wearing hoods and masks break into the building and there is video of the suspects inside of the Eagles. The video also shows that the suspects left and returned to the building several times over two hours, part of the video is the suspects back in the Eagles at 4:00 AM.

This is where it gets good…

After leaving the scene Deputies discussed the method of the burglary and who had knowledge where things were. They also agreed from other information they had obtained that, Kyle A. Snyder, 22 of Omak, was becoming a person of interest. Snyder had also been arrested for breaking into the Eagles back in 2012.

Deputies believed Snyder was still in jail awaiting his time to go to prison on other charges. When they checked on Snyder’s status, they discovered that Snyder had been released from jail and was currently wearing an Ankle Monitor through Friendship Diversion. Deputies went to Friendship Diversion and pulled up Snyder’s monitor history.

That’s right; Snyder wore the ankle bracelet to do the burglary. The history on Snyder’s monitor showed that he went to from the Eagles several times that night and the times on the history also match the surveillance video obtained from the Eagles.

The history also showed Deputies where Snyder went every time he left the Eagles. Deputies went to Omak and located Snyder at his mother’s residence. Snyder was arrested without incident and was later booked into the Okanogan County Jail Burglary 2nd

Degree, Theft 2nd Degree, and Malicious Mischief 1st Degree.

After Snyder was booked Deputies went to the Motel Nicholas in Omak where Snyder had gone several times that night. At the motel they discovered the vehicle that was used in the burglary and they also questioned Alyssa A. Descoteaux, 19 of Omak who was staying in the motel room. After the interview Descoteaux was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine and booked into the Okanogan County Jail. She has not been charged with the burglary at this time.

The investigation is still on going, with search warrants being obtained today for the vehicle. Additional arrests in this case are expected. The Deputies in this case did an excellent job and we appreciate the help from Snyder with the video and GPS coordinates, really makes our job a lot easier.
