Chiefs Drop Road Game to Kelowna

The Kelowna Rockets scored two third period goals to snap a 1-1 tie and went to hand the Spokane Chiefs their third straight loss with a 3-1 win over Spokane Wednesday night in Kelowna, B.C. Spokane still remains 1 point ahead of Everett for 5th place in the Western Conference playoff race with 6 games left in the regular season.

Spokane would jump out to a 1-0 lead on Connor Chartier's 12th goal of the year from Jason Fram and Jeremy McIntosh at 17:03 of the first period. Kelowna would even the game at one on Nick Merkley's power play goal with just 3 seconds left in the first as Spokane outshot Kelowna 12-8 in the first. Neither team scored in the second as the two teams combined for 19 shots in the period.

Merkley would net his second goal of the night as he scored off a 4 on 4 1:25 into the third to give the Rockets a 2-1 lead. Madison Bowey would score off another 4 on 4 at 16:56 to cap the scoring as Kelowna became the first team in 8 games between the two teams to win after the opposition scored first in the game. Spokane outshot Kelowna 30-29 as the Chiefs went 0-5 on the power play and 4-5 on the penalty kill.

Spokane would head North to take on the Prince George Cougars in back to back games Friday and Saturday night at 7pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game shows at 6:30pm.
