The Spokane Chiefs scored 2 third period goals to snap a 4-4 tie and Spokane picked up their first win against the Seattle Thunderbirds this season with a 6-4 win Tuesday night in Kent, WA. The victory was Spokane's third straight as they moved within 2 points of Seattle for 4th place in the Western Conference. The Chiefs finished 3-1 on their 4 game road trip as they extended their lead to 3 points over 6th place Everett in the West.

Spokane scored their first goal on Seattle goalie Taran Kozun in over 3 games as Dominic Zwerger scored his 16th of the season 8:18 into the game from Riley Whittingham and Carter Proft to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Spokane had gone scoreless since the 4th game of the 8 game season series when the Chiefs lost 4-3 in overtime January 11th. Kozun had blanked Spokane 1-0 in overtime January 14th, 4-0 on February 5th and 4-0 again on February 7th.

The Thunderbirds would score 2 goals just 23 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead when Alexander Delnov and Sam McKechnie scored midway through the first. Adam Helewka would even the game at 2 with his 23rd of the year from Connor Chartier and rookie Evan Fiala, who scored his first WHL point is his first game as a Chief, at 12:16 of the first as the two teams headed to the second tied. Mike Aviani would break the deadlock with his 36th goal of the season from Mitch Holmberg and Jeremy McIntosh just 1:37 into the second to make it 3-2. Seattle would counter with goals from Matthew Barzal at 5:42 and Ryan Gropp at 11:19 to re-take the lead at 4-3.

Hudson Elyniuk would get the Chiefs back even with a power play goal at 15:51 of the second to make the game 4-4 going to the third. Aviani would get the eventual game winner from Keanu Yamamoto at 14:34 of the third to give Spokane a 5-4 lead. Connor Chartier would cap the scoring with an empty netter at 18:37 to give the Chiefs the victory. Spokane outshot Seattle 43-34, going 1-3 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill.

Spokane will return home Wednesday night to host the Everett Silvertips at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 6:30pm.
