St. Patrick's Day Weekend Fun! All You Need To Know Right Here!

Posted: Updated:
KHQ.com - "Oh Spokanites, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
From the south hill, and down the north side.
The Winter's gone, and Spokane River's on the rise
Tis you, you all must go, to downtown to show some Irish pride."

And that is what happens when you rewrite and localize the first verse of "Danny Boy" in 30 seconds or less. Horrible I know, but...

Officially St. Patrick's Day is on Monday, March 17th, but unofficially, Spokane turns Irish this weekend for the annual St. Patrick's Day festivities! Many of you have been asking what exactly will be going on this weekend in Spokane, and the celebration all begins with a parade in downtown on Saturday!

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE, SATURDAY, MARCH 15

The annual St Patrick’s Day Parade is scheduled for Saturday, March 15 at noon!

The parade will:

  • Start at Spokane Falls Boulevard and Washington
  • head east to Bernard
  • head south to Main Street
  • head west to Stevens
  • head north to Spokane Falls and
  • End west toward Post.
Vehicles parked at bagged meters by no parking signs will be towed starting at 7a.m. from Boone to Riverside and Bernard to Lincoln.

No seating or standing will be allowed on the construction sides of street at the new convention center hotel.

The area around the arena will start closing down around 8:45 a.m.

The arena closures will be:

  • Howard from Boone to Mallon
  • Washington from Boone to Spokane Falls
  • Mallon from Lincoln to Howard
  • Cataldo from Howard to Calispel and
  • Dean from Howard to Washington.
Downtown will close down at 10:45 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m.

  • The downtown road closures will be:
  • Main from Stevens to Bernard
  • Spokane Falls from Bernard to Lincoln
  • Bernard from Riverside to Spokane Falls
  • Washington from Boone to Riverside
  • Stevens
  • Howard
  • Wall from Main to Spokane Falls
  • Post from Spokane Falls to Bridge Avenue.

"NO REFUSAL WEEKEND"

Of course after the parade there will be plenty of celebrating as Spokane's Irishmen and women hop from bar to bar, drinking plenty of green beer. But as always when you drink, you should designate a driver because this weekend, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office is conducting a "No Refusal Weekend," where all impaired drivers will be tested. Sheriff's deputies will be out on March 14th and March 15th.

During the No Refusal Weekend, law enforcement officials will work quickly with prosecutors to obtain blood-draw warrants for drivers who refuse a BAC test. Anyone refusing a breath test will be subject to blood testing at the scene of the stop, a medical facility, or the nearest jail facility.

SUNDAY, MARCH 16th

On Sunday, there is the St. Paddy's Five Run from 12-2pm. Runners and walkers will be in the area of Spokane Community College on a route that goes from South Riverton to Mission, Upriver Drive to Greene Street, and back to Spokane Community College. There will be no road closures for this event, so if you're planning on driving in the area, please be cautious of runners on the road.
