Starbucks To Roll Out Beer, Wine To More Cafes

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (AP) - Starbucks plans to turn more of its cafes into a destination for get beer and wine in the evenings.

The coffee company says it is looking to expand alcohol sales to "thousands of select stores" over the next several years.

The chain first offered beer and wine at one of its Seattle cafes in 2010. It's now in about 26 cafes, with plans to reach 40 by the end of the year.

The cafes with alcohol also serve a variety of small dishes, such as flatbreads and bacon-wrapped dates.

It's part of the chain's push to boost sales after the morning rush hour. To attract more afternoon customers, for instance, the company recently introduced new sandwiches and salads.

There are about 11,000 Starbucks stores in the U.S.

VANCOUVER, Wash. - With Washington's new distracted driving law in effect, holding a phone while behind the wheel could cost you. In addition to the cell phone crackdown, the law makes eating, drinking or other activities that could potentially take your hands off the wheel secondary offenses. That means if you run a stop sign while drinking a cup of coffee and get pulled over for running the stop sign, you could get a $99 fine for drinking that coffee.
