HERMISTON, OR - A Paterson man is facing multiple charges after Wednesday's fatal crash in Hermiston.

Oregon State Police arrested Jesus Moras Nava, 29, on Thursday. According to the Umatilla County Jail Roster, Nava is facing charges for reckless driving, reckless endangerment, hit and run, 2nd degree assault, and 2nd degree manslaughter.

The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 395 and East Punkin Road. Investigators say just before 8:30 Leslie Roquez, 29, of Irrigon was driving northbound on Highway 395 when she stopped in the left lane at the intersection of East Punkin Road. That was when Nava hit their vehicle from behind.

Officers say her daughter, 7-year-old Teleeya Roquez, was killed and her mother sustained critical injuries. Paramedics transported Leslie Roquez to Good Shepard Medical Center in Hermiston and later flew her to a hospital in Portland.

Officers say the girl was properly restrained in a booster seat and both the mother and daughter were wearing seat belts.

This was the second fatal crash in Hermiston on Wednesday. The first occurred shortly after 7 a.m. and involved two cars at the intersection of Feedville and South Edwards roads. One person died.
