Security Breach: Teen Sneaks Past Security At The World Trade Center

Posted: Updated:

(NBC)- A teenager eluded security and climbed to the top of the Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center.  Now some are concerned about the breach at what is supposed to be one of the world's most secure sites.

He waved to the camera, then said nothing. 16-year old Justin Casquejo snuck onto the supposedly well-guarded World Trade Center site, then reaching the top of the Freedom Tower.

Experts say Casquejo's alleged trespassing around 4am Monday, isn't a simple prank. Casquejo told Port Authority Police he had walked around the site and figured out how to get to the roof. He says he found a way up through scaffolding, climbed onto the 6th floor, and took the elevator up to the 88th floor.

He then took the staircase up to 104.

Then went to the rooftop and climbed the ladder all the way to the antenna. New Yorkers who've seen so-called spider men scale the New York Times building and Brooklyn Bridge in recent years said the Port Authority may have gotten lax about overnight security.

Casquejo has left a trail of hints and anecdotes on social media. One month before the incident, he tweeted "when life gets boring I start to do drastic things." Two weeks later he posted: "how can anyone be comfortable with a boring life."

Then after apparently getting injured while climbing construction equipment March 7th he wrote, "so I'm heading to the hospital."

After scaling One World Trade he tweeted, "inspired."
