DEVASTATING MUDSLIDE: Death Toll Rises To 30

UPDATE: EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - The number of confirmed deaths in the Washington state mudslide rose to 30 on Thursday with the release of another victim's name.

The Snohomish County medical examiner's office says 67-year-old Gloria Halstead of Arlington died of multiple blunt force injuries in the accident. She had been on the list of missing, which now drops to 17.

Recovery crews are still searching for bodies in the March 22 landslide that crushed the community of Oso, about 55 miles north of Seattle.

Here is the Snohomish County medical examiner's office list of publicly identified victims of the Oso landslide as of April 3. The medical examiner's office has received a total of 30 victims and so far has released the identities of 27.

ARLINGTON, Wash. (AP) - A county medical examiner has increased the death toll in the Washington state mudslide to 29.
   
That's one more victim than had been reported Tuesday, but the number officially identified by the Snohomish County medical examiner's office on Wednesday remains at 22.
   
And 20 people are still listed as missing from the March 22 slide that broke off a steep hill, roared across the North Fork of the Stillaguamish River and buried a community at Oso, about 55 miles north of Seattle.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police Capt. Alan Myers said Sunday that the cougar was about 100 pounds (45 kilograms), when a typical 3-year-old male in the area would be 140 to 180 pounds (63 to 81 kilograms). A necropsy will try to determine why the animal was underweight.
