STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. -

911 tapes obtained by KHQ detail the moments after the fatal shooting that killed 41-year old Brendon Wright. Wright was shot and killed by Stevens County detective Dwayne Johnson. Johnson, the off duty detective responded to the rural Rice, Washington home for a disturbance call. Johnson lives in the area.

In the tapes you can hear Cody Cooper, the owner of the home Johnson responded to call 911 then hang up then call back again. Here is a breakdown of what happens next:

Dispatcher: "Hi is this the Coopers?"

Cody Cooper: "Yes. It is."

Dispatcher: "Hi you just called and hung up, did you see Dwayne outside?

Cody Cooper: "Yes, Dwayne is here, there is a guy down, they got in to a gun fight."

Dispatcher: "Who did, who did?"

Cody Cooper: "Dwayne Johnson and this guy that was at my house."

Detective Johnson then gets on the phone with the dispatcher. Johnson is heard saying, "I got a guy down." and tells the dispatcher he needs an ambulance. Several minutes pass by in the tape. The dispatcher asks detective Johnson, "did you end up shooting the guy." Johnson replies, "yes.".Johnson also goes on to say that Wright "came after me. He chased me around my truck 3-times."

Johnson continues to tell the dispatcher that "he fired two shots at me before I could even shoot back."

When KHQ spoke with Johnson the day after the shooting he had visible wounds on his hand and ear from he says shotgun pellets.

The shooting continues to be under investigation by the Spokane Regional Response Team.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE

STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. - Just after 6 PM Tuesday night, a Stevens County detective was called to a disturbance call in the 2400 block of Scott road in Rice, Washington. According to the Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team, the detective arrived and was immediately fired upon by a man. The SIRR team is the outside investigating agency for the shooting. The SIRR team says the detective was hit by shotgun pellets as he got out of his car then returned fire hitting and killing the suspect.

On Wednesday, KHQ learned the name of the detective involved in the shooting. Dwayne Johnson is nearly a 20 year veteran of the Stevens County Sheriffs Department. Johnson told KHQ's Dylan Wohlenhaus on Wednesday he could not talk about the investigation but Johnson had visible shotgun pellet wounds on his hand and ear. Johnson also says "it happened so fast." Johnson is currently on administrative leave which is standard for a deputy involved shooting.

KHQ also spoke with the owner of the home where the shooting happened. He says that no one who lived at the home was involved with the shooting. He says a neighbor came over and was causing trouble. That's when the homeowner called 911 and detective Johnson arrived. The Spokane Investigative Regional Response team is now investigating the shooting. It will determine, in part with prosecutors if Johnson was justified in the shooting.
