UPDATE/KENNEWICK, WA - Kennewick Police have identified the woman hit and killed in a car versus pedestrian accident Tuesday afternoon.
Officers say 52-year-old Nina Howard was crossing 27th Avenue near Ely Street on foot when she was hit by a white 1966 Chevy Nova. The driver, 46-year-old Michael S. Johnson of Kennewick, was heading eastbound on 27th Avenue.
The accident happened around 4:00P.M.
Howard was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified.
The case is still under investigation. Although Howard was crossing the street without a crosswalk, officers say it appears that the speed of the vehicle did play a factor in the collision.
Kennewick Police say right before the accident happened, there may have been a landscaping truck pulling a trailer that was in the area. The driver of that landscaping truck is a witness and police would like to speak to the driver.
Kennewick Police say investigators have finished consulting with the Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Andy Miller and Miller has authorized Johnson to be booked into the Benton County Jail on a 72 hour incarceration hold for Vehicular Homicide.

Officers say the 52-year-old woman was crossing 27th Avenue when a man driving eastbound in an older model Chevy Chevelle hit her.
The accident happened around 4pm and blocked off 27th Avenue from South Ely Street to Quillan Street for over two hours.
The woman was not using a crosswalk.
Officers want to remind drivers to always look for pedestrians and be able to stop quickly to avoid tragic accidents like this one.
"Pedestrians should use a crosswalk, should use an intersection, but drivers still have the responsibility to exercise due care and yield to any pedestrian in the roadway," said Sgt. Ken Lattin, Kennewick Police Department.
Investigators interviewed the driver that hit the woman and several people who witnessed the accident.
