SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - The dog that attacked an 8-year-old last week in north Spokane has been deemed dangerous by SCRAPS. "Girl," the brown pitbull that attacked the little girl and two other people trying to help her, was deemed as a dangerous dog, while the other dog involved in the attack, a black lab/pitbull mix named "Demon" was deemed as a potentially dangerous dog.>>
SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. - SCRAPS has confirmed with KHQ that a dog was shot and killed by law enforcement Wednesday evening in north Spokane near Atlantic and Lyons.

Nancy Hill with SCRAPS said her officers responded to the area for a complaint of a dog that had bit its owner and was acting out of control. Multiple people tried to get the dog under control, and 5 people ended up being bit by the dog. Multiple people ended up going to the hospital, and will most likely need stitches.

Animal control officers tried to corner the dog, but had a difficult time because it was in an apartment complex. Spokane County Sheriff's Deputies and Officers from the Spokane Police Department responded as well and Hill said because police thought there was an imminent threat to the public, the dog was shot and killed.

Deputy Mark Gregory with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office told KHQ that deputies and officers with SPD and SCRAPS did everything they could to try and catch the dog and get it under control, and shooting it was an absolute last resort. Gregory said it was a Spokane Police Officer that fired the shot.

The dog was removed by SCRAPS and will be sent to the lab to be tested for rabies.

Hill identified the dog as a pitbull.
