Deputies Searching For Two Dogs That Have Killed Farm Animals In Chelan County

Posted: Updated:
CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. - Deputies with the Chelan County Sheriff's Office and Animal Control are searching for two dogs they say may be dangerous to the community after already killing multiple farm animals.

Early Friday morning a resident in the 8000 block of Stine Hill Road reported that her farm animals were being killed by two dogs. Deputies had already responded to the residence hours earlier when the homeowner discovered 15 chickens, 3 peacocks, and 2 ducks had been killed inside a fenced area of her farm. During that incident, it was unclear what type of animals killed her birds, but deputies found the attacking animal or animals were able to push their way through the bottom of a wired enclosure.

On the second call early Friday morning, the homeowner went outside and fired a shotgun in the air when she saw what the dogs were doing and one of the dogs ran toward her, chasing her back into the house. The homeowner described the dog as being big, black and possibly a Shepherd-style. Deputies say after the homeowner was inside the house, the dog laid down in front of her car next to a goat pen. Another dog was already inside the goat pen, attacking goats, and it eventually jumped out and left. That dog was described as being a some sort of Husky breed, with white or light brown spots on it.

Once a Chelan County Deputy arrived, he saw the black dog by the car next to the goat pen. When he approached the dog, it got up and started to quickly move towards him. Knowing the dog had already attacked numerous animals and had ran at the homeowner, the deputy fired his gun at the dog, which immediately ran away, jumped to the other side of the fence and laid down. Other deputies coming on scene said they saw the Husky looking dog running away from the farm but were unable to follow it.

Once Animal Control arrived on scene, the black dog got up and walked away. Deputies followed the dog for about 1/4 of a mile before they lost sight of it. It is unknown if that dog was actually shot or not.

Deputies spent the next two hours searching for the dogs, but never found them. They say neither of them were wearing a collar. At least one goat died from the attacks and several others were injured. Deputies say it is unknown if these dogs were responsible for the bird attacks, but say that is most likely what happened.

Animal control is searching for the dogs and assisting in the investigation.

Again, one of the dogs is a black, Shepherd-style breed and the other is a Husky-style breed with white or light brown spots on it.

The Sheriff's Office said it is very important to find these two dogs before they attack more animals, or worse, people.

If you have any information about these two dogs, or who may own them, please call 509-633-9911.
