YAKIMA, WA - NBC Right Now is taking a closer look at a form of cannabis called marijuana oil after a Tri-Cities man admitted to ingesting it the night before he hit and killed a pedestrian while racing.

The Drug Enforcement Administration explained that marijuana oil, which is also referred to as hash oil or honey oil is a very strong form of cannabis because of its high THC content.

Jodie Underwood a spokesperson for the DEA said they've seen purities as high as 73 percent, which can magnify hallucinating effects.

Hash oil can be consumed in a variety of ways including smoking, vaporization or by putting it in food.

"It provides a unique hallucinogenic experience," said Underwood. "The abuser receives effects of a high almost instantly as well as possible hallucinations."

There's also been several explosions and fires in homes that are producing marijuana oil. The blasts happen as people use butane to remove hash oil from marijuana.

The state's new recreational pot law does not explicitly ban making hash oil at home for personal use as long as it does not involve more than one ounce of dried marijuana.
