KHQ.COM - Against the grain opened its doors in March or 2013. Mother daughter owners, Debbie & Aly, had decided it was time to pursue their passion and dream of owning a unique home decor and gift store. With the rapid growth of locally owned businesses on the West Plains area they couldn't think if a better place then their resident town of Cheney, WA to embark on their journey.

The West Plains has so much to offer and Debbie and Aly wanted to work together with other businesses to promote the uniqueness of local shops, restaurants and artisans in the area. Against The Grain carries a variety of unique home decor and gift items, antiques, refinished furniture and features creations from all over the West Plains, including reclaimed wood signs by MannMade Designs out of Davenport, Wa, barn wood furniture and farm implement outdoor creations from Barnyard Junk'tion out of Spokane Valley, Specialty quilts from quilter extraordinaire, fabric designer and author Pam Mostek of Cheney, wa, and primitive inspired decorations and furniture from Empty Nest Studios of Cheney,Wa just to name a few.

Against the Grain is also a stockist of Chalk Paint(r) Decorative Paint by Annie Sloan, refinishing all the furniture in house and painted by hand! They also teach Chalk Paint workshops monthly in their basement paint studio. Debbie and Aly work hard to carry something for everyone and are constantly painting new pieces and receiving new inventory daily.

Patrol officers found the man unresponsive at 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Sprague and Stevens. Witnesses told police the injured man had walked out in front of a taxi and started a fight.>>
