Sidney Rice Re-Signs With Seahawks

Posted:

Per his twitter and instagram accounts free agent wide receiver Sidney Rice has re-signed with the Seattle Seahawks. Other reports indicate the deal is for a one year contract.

The Seahawks have been in need of resigning a receiver since Golden Tate left for the Detroit Lions when the NFL free agency period opened earlier in the year.

Two days after announcing he had been medically cleared to resume football activities, wide receiver Sidney Rice has found a familiar home in the NFL.

The 6-foot-4, 202-pound pass catcher agreed to terms with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday afternoon, a deal struck nearly seven weeks after the club released Rice in a salary-cap influenced move prior to the start of NFL free agency.

Following Rice's Feb. 28 release, head coach Pete Carroll said the team might "have a chance" to bring back the wideout who led the club in catches (50) and receiving yards (748) two seasons ago.

"Aaayyyyooo 12s.. SEA you in a few.. IM COMIN' HOME!" Rice captioned in a photo of himself donning Seahawks blue and green on his Instagram account.

Rice is coming off an ACL injury he suffered on Oct. 28 in a game against the St. Louis Rams. He was placed on injured reserve two days later and was forced to watch the Seahawks' Super Bowl XLVIII championship run from the sidelines.

He'll rejoin a Seahawks receiving corps that currently features nine others at the position - Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, Ricardo Lockette, Bryan Walters, Phil Bates, Arceto Clark, Taylor Price, and Chris Matthews.

Rice originally signed in Seattle as a free agent on July 29, 2011 after four seasons with the Vikings in Minnesota. The 27-year-old has played in 33 games for the Seahawks since, hauling in 97 catches for 1,463 yards, and 12 touchdowns.
