72-Year-Old Man Pleads Not Guilty to Deliberate Homicide

BUTTE -

A 72-year-old Butte man denies allegations he killed another 72-year-old man at the Continental Gardens assisted living home last month.

John Grubbs pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in Butte-Silver Bow County District Court Thursday morning.

Grubbs is accused of killing another 72-year-old man with a large kitchen knife when the two got into an altercation in March at Continental Gardens.

Grubbs' attorney asked the court to submit a not guilty plea on their behalf, because there are questions about the suspect's mental health.

Grubbs will now be taken to the state hospital where he will undergo multiple mental health tests.

The court will wait for those test results before scheduling an omnibus hearing.
