SPOKANE, Wash.- A man and woman under arrest for their involvement in a fast food restaurant robbery Thursday night, are now facing even more robbery charges. Spokane police believe Tom Craigen, 32 and Jessica Schwartzenberger, 23, may be a part of as many as five different robberies in the Spokane area, since Sunday April 13.

On Sunday at 1:55am, Spokane police responded to a robbery at the Cenex Station on the 2100 block of W. Northwest Blvd. The clerk said she was cleaning the machine when she was approached by a man, about 5'7" with a skinny build. The man pulled a gun from his back pocket and without pointing the weapon at the clerk, motioned toward the register, telling her, "Give me all the money." The clerk described the gun as a black semiautomatic handgun.

The clerk gave her all the money and then the robber said, "I want the big bills." The clerk said she didn't have access to any other bills, and the suspect ran away, yelling, "I'll be back."

On Monday around 9pm, law enforcement responded to the Dairy Queen in the 300 block of W. Francis. The clerk said she was serving a drive-thru customer, when suddenly a man appeared between the window and the vehicle, armed with a gun. The suspect said, "Give me the f***ing money, just put it in the bag!". When the clerk was struggling he said, "nevermind, just give me the whole thing," gesturing toward the cash drawer. The robber got away with the cash drawer, which had $980.

On Tuesday at 8pm, law enforcement responded to the McDonald's, in the 6300 block of N. Monroe. Once again, a suspect ran to the drive-thru window, armed with a gun. This time he didn't say anything, he simply grabbed the register and took off. Both the suspect's description, and the firearm description were similar in all three robberies.

The surveillance from the McDonald's robbery showed the suspect run with the register into a silver or tan colored pickup truck.

On Wednesday, around 9:30pm, law enforcement was called to the Wendy's in the 9000 block of N. Newport Highway. Once again, an armed robber suddenly appeared at the drive-thru window while the clerk was dealing with a customer. The clerk screamed and fell to the floor, then crawled away. While she was crawling away she says the suspect reached through the window and remove the cash drawer.

The robber in all four of these robberies had the same description: white male, in his 20's, 5'10"-ish, 160 pounds. The handgun was described as black.

At 6pm Thursday evening, Spokane Police were called to a robbery at the McDonald's on the 2200 block of W. Wellesley. Once again, the robber came up to the drive-thru window and grabbed the cash register.

Tyler Christenson and his girlfriend Leticia Bleek witnessed the robber take off with the register. They saw him run to a pickup truck, get in, and drive away. They got the truck's license plates, then even started following the truck. After a short time, they finally lost sight of the truck near Rowan and Alberta. Officers later found a cash drawer near Alberta and Rowan.

Witness Leticia Bleek said the driver of the pickup that the robber jumped into was driven by a woman that appeared to be in her 20's.

Using the license number provided by Bleek and Christenson officer pulled over a pickup, and ultimately arrested both Craigen and Schwartzenberger. Also in the pickup was a baby, the child of Craigen and Schwartzenberger.

Schwartzenberger told police that she was using money from the robberies to purchase things like diapers, while Craigen told officers he took part in the robberies to help fund a drug habit. He said there was a third person involved as well, a man named Sean Gilbert. Craigen said Gilbert paid him in narcotic painkillers to help take part in the robberies. He said Gilbert used the money to buy more painkillers.

In court on Friday, Tom Craigen was ordered held on a $250,000 bond and Jessica Schwartzenberger was ordered held on a $20,000 bond. Both will be arraigned April 29.

Sean Gilbert is at large, but Spokane police would like to speak with him. If you know anything, call Crime Check (509) 456-2233.
