Family's Car Catches Fire Inside Lion Enclosure

Posted: Updated:

(NBC)- A British family was forced to flee their car inside a lion enclosure, after the vehicle caught fire. Other visitors shot amateur footage of the car on fire. Helen Clements, who was in the car with her two children, said they were caught between wanting to escape the burning car while evading the lions.

"We then thought we better get out of the car but obviously the rangers were saying get back in the car, obviously for the safety reasons, so it was very difficult to know what to do; get in the car or get out the car. So it was a little bit frightening."

The family was quickly rescued by park rangers and suffered no injuries. The lions stayed clear of the vehicle and were temporarily removed from the area so the fire could be extinguished.
