DENVER – Idaho’s Alycia Butterworth has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, for April 14-20, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Butterworth, a senior from Parksville, British Columbia (Ballenas Secondary), placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Mt. Sac Relays. Butterworth’s career-best time of 10:14.26 leads the WAC, ranks fourth in the NCCA West Region and 14th in the NCAA. Her time also ranks second-best all-time in the 3,000m steeplechase in Idaho history. The honor marks Butterworth’s second in as many weeks and the fourth of her career.
"Alycia ran a great race," Director of Track & Field Wayne Phipps commented. "She has overcome a lot in the last year and it is awesome to see her run so well again."
The Vandals will be back in action on Saturday, competing in the Cougar Invitational hosted by Washington State. Following Saturday, Idaho will have two meets remaining leading up the WAC Championships. The Silver and Gold will host the Vandal Jamboree, its final home meet, May 9-10. The WAC Championships are set for May 14-17, in Orem, Utah.
