SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Shock (3-2) hit the road for a nationally televised game against the Tampa Bay Storm (3-3) this Saturday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m. PDT in the Tampa Bay Times Forum. For the second time this year the Shock will play a game televised on CBS Sports Network.

The two clubs will meet for only the sixth time, with the Shock leading the all-time series 3-2. The lone meeting between the two teams in the playoffs was ArenaBowl XXIII in which Spokane came away with a 69-57 victory. Most recently the two teams met on July 6 of last season, with Spokane winning 63-49 in Tampa Bay.

Spokane is coming off a heartbreaking 52-50 loss to the Cleveland Gladiators, in which a last-second pass off the right return net fell into the hands of Thyron Lewis to cap an exciting final minute of the game.

Coming out of halftime leading 28-17, the Shock found themselves trailing by one after the third quarter due to a strong push by the Gladiators. After giving up a touchdown drive to open the fourth quarter, Erik Meyer’s fourth touchdown pass of the night to Brandon Thompkins tied the game at 43. Following a field goal drive for Cleveland led by backup quarterback Chris Dieker, Meyer led Spokane on an assumed game-winning drive that was capped by a touchdown pass to Hank Edwards with 10 seconds left on the clock.

Meyer has completed 111 of 171 pass attempts this season for 1,211 yards and 24 touchdowns and is now only 10 touchdowns shy of breaking the franchise career record of 178 currently held by Kyle Rowley.

The Shock receiving corps is led by the trio of Thompkins, Adron Tennell, and Mike Washington. Although Washington has not played the past two weeks, he still leads the Shock in receiving yards (336) and touchdowns (8).

Spokane’s defense is led by the talented combo of Terrance Sanders and Bryant Nnabuife in the secondary, who have combined for 51 tackles and seven pass break-ups through five games. Sanders has hauled in four interceptions this year, one of which he returned for a touchdown. Jack linebacker Terence Moore has tacked on three interceptions and 24 tackles of his own.

Tampa Bay’s offense is led by second-year quarterback Randy Hippeard, who has completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 1,736 yards and 40 touchdowns. His average of 289.3 passing yards per game is second best in the AFL.

Wide receivers Amarri Jackson and Justin Hilton have combined to haul in 81 receptions for 1,019 yards and 23 touchdowns. Tampa Bay’s high powered passing offense is currently second best in the league, behind the Orlando Predators.

However, with the Storm offense managing to put up 55.2 points per game their defense has given up 57.3 per game, a large reason for their three losses.

Tampa Bay’s defense has given up 143 yards on the ground (23.8 per game), making them the 11th worst rushing defense in the AFL.

The game can be found on TV on CBS Sports Network and on Tampa Bay radio at 1250 AM-WHNZ.

The Shock’s next home game comes against the Pittsburgh Power on Friday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. PDT. Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting SpokaneShock.com.
