SEATTLE –
Four Washington pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout and the Huskies beat Washington State 2-0 in the nightcap of a doubleheader, Sunday.

The Huskies (29-10-1, 16-5 Pac-12) swept the twinbill after edging the Cougars (18-22, 8-10) 2-1 in the opener and won two of three games in the weekend series.

Austin Rei delivered a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fourth off Washington State starter Jason Monda (1-5) for the only runs of the nightcap. Jeff Brigham (5-2) went the first six innings for the Huskies to earn the victory. Troy Rallings worked the ninth for his seventh save of the season and second of the day.

In the opener, Brian Wolfe put Washington on top in the first inning with a two-out, RBI-double off Tanner Chleborad (2-5). In the fifth, the Huskies added a run on a Cougar error, a sacrifice and a single.

Washington State responded in the sixth with a run against Tyler Davis (9-1). With one out Trace Tam Sing doubled and Collin Slaybaugh bunted for a hit to put runners at the corners. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch to bring the Cougars within a run at 2-1. After P.J. Jones walked, Yale Rosen grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The Cougars threatened in each of the final three innings, but were turned away each time. In the seventh, Nick Tanielu led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Ben Roberts. The inning ended when Ian Sagdal lined to center for a double play.

In the eighth, Patrick McGrath opened with a single and Trek Stemp sacrificed pinch runner Michael Monda to second against Washington reliever Trevor Dunlap. Tam Sing struck out and Slaybaugh was intentionally walked. Rallings came on and retired Jones on a ground out to end the frame.

Tanielu singled was hit by a pitch with one out in the ninth and Roberts singled to put the tying and go-ahead runs aboard again. After Sagdal struck out, the Cougars executed a double steal. Rallings then fanned Matt Mendenhall to pick up the four-out save.
