UPDATE: SPOKANE, Wash. - The female victim whose body was found in a home on N. Standard in Spokane has been identified as Tracy Fergerstrom. Her suspected killer who was subsequently shot and killed by police when he aggressively returned to the murder scene during the police investigation has been identified as Jeremy Arnold.

According to court documents, Arnold's friend found the murder victim's body in a bedroom of the home Tuesday morning and notified police. Police were actually at the home Monday night performing a welfare check for a different female, Mandy Waters.

Waters and Arnold were actually in the news last week for what appeared to be a story of heroism. Arnold and Waters were in a boat with a 2-year-old child on Horseshoe Lake when it capsized and Arnold reportedly led his family to safety.

When police responded to the Waters welfare check on Monday evening, Tracy Fergerstrom, the murder victim, was with Arnold in the front yard. Less than 24 hours later, Fergerstrom was murdered and her body was discovered in a bedroom inside the home with stab wounds on her back. Her body was wrapped in a quilt and police found bloody fingerprints on the bedroom door. There was also blood smeared throughout the home.

According to the police warrant there is surveillance equipment inside the home that "appeared to be operating" but we do no know if any surveillance footage was captured and if it will help further the investigation. The last line of court documents read, "the whereabouts of Jeremy Arnold and his 2-year-old daughter are unknown." These documents were obviously written before Arnold returned to the scene Tuesday afternoon, where after threatening officers, he was shot and killed by police.

We do not know the exact location of Arnold's 2-year-old daughter or who has custody of her but we do know she is safe. Her mother died last year in a drowning that was determined to be accidental so she has now been left without parents.

The warrant does not speak of the officer involved shooting as that investigation is separate to the murder investigation and one that involves a different agency.

According to a Facebook page listed under Tracy Fergerstrom, she lists a move to Spokane from Las Vegas just 4 months ago.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

SPOKANE, Wash. - While investigating a homicide in north Spokane on Tuesday, the "person of interest" in that case actually showed  up on scene and ended up getting shot by police.

It happened just before 2:00pm while police were looking into the discovery of a body in the 2500 block of N. Standard. As police were investigating, the suspect in the homicide showed up on scene, went through barricades at a significant rate of speed, got out of his truck with what appeared to be a gun and was shot by police. He died on scene, and has not been officially identified.

Witnesses tell KHQ, as the man pulled up on scene, they heard police yell, "there he is," and "get down on the ground" before they shot and killed him. Police said a firearm was recovered next to the man's body.

KHQ's Alex Rozier talked to neighbors who said they see police at the home where the body was found "at least once a week" and Rozier was able to confirm with authorities, Spokane Police have received 10 calls for service from this house in the past year alone.

Police say the family of the man who was shot have not been entirely notified, but friends and family have told KHQ who the man was. We are not naming the man until officials can confirm with us his identity. The suspect does have a lengthy criminal history and has served time for numerous crimes, including Robbery, Burglary, Assault, and Witness Intimidation.

Friends and family tell us the man's wife drowned in the Spokane River last summer, and just last week, the boat he was in capsized on Horseshoe Lake in Pend Oreille County with him, his girlfriend and his 2-year-old daughter inside. All three made it to shore, and according to the Pend Oreille County Sheriff's Office, the man went back in the water, swam across the lake, and called for help from a nearby home. The Spokane County Sheriff's helicopter aided in the search for the missing woman and child and eventually found them.
