RICHLAND, WA - A local family is grieving the loss of their loved one. 51-year-old Latanya Chapin was found dead in Spokane last week in the trunk of a car.

Her daughter is now in jail and her daughter's boyfriend faces second degree murder charges.

The family is heart broken, Jennifer Chapin is Latanya Chapin's sister in -law.

Jennifer said Latanya was a happy person who loved nature and she never expected something like this to happen, specially within her own family.

"We'll miss her a lot she had long beautiful hair and she was beautiful here (inside) and here (out)," said Jennifer Chapin, who has known Latanya since she was in junior high school.

"She just didn't deserve what happened to her," she added.

According to court documents, Latanya Chapin's body was in left a trunk of a car for several weeks, before police found her. Juan Sifuentez is charged with beating her to death and Chapin's own daughter Rachael Colby is said to have helped hide her mother's body.

"Your own daughter, that's the biggest shock of all she had done everything for her and her daughter blamed her for everything that was wrong in her life," said Jennifer.

Most of Chapin's family lives in the Tri-Cities, she recently lived in Richland after returning from Alaska after a failed marriage, she stayed with her brother Herb and sister-in-law Jennifer.

Jennifer believes her niece Rachael and her boyfriend Sifuentez were on drugs and stealing money from Latanya.

"Rachael tended to fall for the bad boys, it was just her nature...but to get to that point of brutality, I didn't expect that but you could tell by her face she was on drugs again," said Jennifer.

Chapin also had a daughter, Amber, who has autism and is currently in the care of another family member.
