KENNEWICK, WA - Construction on a new hotel next to the Three Rivers Convention Center is reaching new heights and it's just one way the City of Kennewick is expanding its reach.

Hotel construction is on schedule and under budget. The SpringHill Suites by Marriot will attach to the Three Rivers Convention Center and hopes are it will attract more conventions. More events means more dollars spent locally. The hotel is just one way Kennewick is working to meet their vision of a more developed city.

"Five floors of shiny metal going up and lots of framing, lots of steal work," said Craig Mittelstaedt, construction manager.

"Meet the needs of this area. When people see an investment of this magnitude in this area, they will then come out and invest themselves," said Don Britain, Kennewick City Council.

Kennewick City Council created a 20 year plan, a sort of wish list, for adding facilities like a new arena and performing arts center. This hotel is another investment to improve the area and promote more development in a place they hope to become a new city center.
"It shows that this area is important to Kennewick. Hopefully it's a springboard for future development in this area, especially as we work with the Port of Kennewick on their master plan to redevelop the Vista Field area," Britain said.

The Port of Kennewick plans include making Vista Field land an entertainment district and new downtown.

This new hotel will not only retain conventions money. It will also give a boost to the area. Quick progress on the hotel is progress for the future of Kennewick.

"We're on schedule. We're on task. We are progressing. Every floor goes 15 days. Every 15 days we'll hit another floor," Mittelstaedt.

The SpringHill Suites by Marriot will be 5 floors with 113 rooms. The owner is already discussing a possible phase two expansion of 50 more rooms.

The project is expected to be complete by December.
