YAKIMA, WA - A devastating fire rocked the Yakima Tennis Club last Sunday, but that's not breaking the organization's spirit. As they say, the show must go on.

"We are conducting all of our business over at the indoor club," said Stephen Welt, the General Manager of the Yakima Tennis Club.

The fire completely destroyed the outdoor clubhouse, and Welt said two courts received minor damage.

Staff said summer programs like junior tennis, swim lessons and kid's camp will continue as normal.

"To be able to provide a home away from home for all our members, year round members and our summer members," said Welt. "So that comes first."

The Yakima Tennis Club also hosts large tournaments which bring professional athletes from all over the nation. Welt said these events haven't been canceled either.

Even though the past couple of days have been difficult, the staff said the amount of phone calls and support has been overwhelming.

"That's what's so amazing abut the human sprit," said Welt. "Sunday was so devastating for lots of members walking around crying, lots of memories. And then by the next day it's like okay, what do we do."

Welt said after immediate commitments are figured out and handled, the organization will start thinking about building a new outdoor clubhouse.

Yakima firefighters said it's still unclear where the fire started and how it started.

The Yakima Tennis Club is putting fencing around the area and keeping security on site as the investigation continues.
