Court: Gay Marriage Must Remain On Hold In Idaho

Posted: Updated:
BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A federal appeals court says no same-sex marriages will be allowed in Idaho until an appeal is decided.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday granted a request for a stay from Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter and Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden.

The decision means that despite a recent ruling overturning Idaho's gay marriage ban, same-sex couples can't get married or have their marriages recognized until the 9th Circuit or U.S. Supreme Court decides whether to let the ruling stand.

U.S. District Magistrate Judge Candy Dale overturned Idaho's ban May 13, saying it unconstitutionally denies gay and lesbian residents their fundamental right to marry.

Otter and Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden both immediately announced appeals and asked that the ruling be put on hold.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Laurel or Yanny? This debate all started from an audio clip where people can’t agree what word the voice is saying. We were discussing this in the KHQ Newsroom too and it seems like everyone is split. Some hear “yanny,” some hear “laurel,” and others hear both. So what exactly is going on? Audio specialists say that it’s a poor quality audio clip, but people hear different ranges of frequencies. Dylan Bennett tweeted an explanation ...
