Russell Wilson Makes Virtual Visit To Spokane

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. - The kids at 'Russell Wilson' Elementary school did not get much work done on Thursday. The first half of their day was spent hanging out with Blitz, the Seattle Seahawks mascot. He played basketball with them at recess, went to class, and even filled in at the front office.

Blitz spent the day at Wilson today because during the NFL playoffs, Principal Tony Ressa renamed the school in honor of the would-be Super Bowl champs and their superstar quarterback.

"You're talking about a sport, and football is awesome," explained Ressa. "But what really captured our imagination was Russell Wilson, the great quarterback who does amazing things."

So, when Russell Wilson joined the kids via Skype in the cafeteria, the noise level and excitement increased dramatically.

Russell Wilson, who just got back from a visit at the White House, talked to the kids for over 30 minutes, taking a question from a student in each class at Wilson.

And, inspired by Russell Wilson's perseverance and character, the school is now challenging the Spokane community to do something good with all that energy.

In the spirit of the 12th man, they are hoping to raise $12,000 for the Spokane Guild School.

"Mr. Wilson said, why do you need a Plan B when you've got a Plan A, and our Plan A is $12,000, so we're going for it," shouted Principal Ressa to the crowded auditorium.

This is especially meaningful for the Dullanty family.

Their daughter Ali is in 2nd grade at Wilson, and their son Tyler will be in kindergarten at Wilson next year, but Tyler started school at the Guild School.

"We're excited for it," said Mike Dullanty, Tyler's dad. "It's ambitious, but like Russell Wilson said, you gotta be ambitious in life."

At the end of the presentation, one of the students asked Russell Wilson what teams he rooted for as a kid.

He said, over the years, he rooted for the Dallas Cowboys, the New Orleans Saints, and even the San Francisco 49er's. But he made it clear, now he is in love with the Seattle Seahawks.

And, especially after his visit today, there is no doubt that the kids at Russell Wilson Elementary School have nothing but love for him too.
