Motorcycle Accident At Battle Creek

KHQ.COM - On May 24th 2014 at around 12:07 pm Deputies from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Backcountry Unit, along with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Coeur D’ Alene Fire were dispatched to Forest Service Road #438 at Beauty Creek for an injury motorcycle accident.

It was reported that a male subject, identified as Justin Yapp, a 25 year old male from Spokane Valley, WA lost control his off road motorcycle and left the roadway. Yapp sustained a possible broken leg. Life Flight responded and transported Yapp to Kootenai Medical Center.

The initial investigation showed Yapp was operating his motorcycle on Forest Service Road #438, left the roadway and struck a tree. The initial investigation has determined that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Yapp is being treated at Kootenai Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office would recommend that if you are operating any type of off road vehicle in the national forest or other roadways within the county to wear a helmet. Additionally, helmets are required for those operators that are under the age of 18. Also, those under the age of 16 who operate an ATV or motorbike on roads that are on federal or state land where the road is not part of the highway system of the state or local system are required to be supervised by a licensed adult operator 18 years of age or older and have taken the OHV safety course.
