SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - UPDATE:
The owner of the company notified KHQ just before 5:00pm on Wednesday that the front end loader has been found.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Department is investigating the theft.

Previous Coverage:

How do you steal and hide a $100,000 front end loader? That's exactly what the Spokane County Sheriff's Office is trying to figure out.

On Monday, Deputy Ken Dodge was called to a construction site just east of Broadway and Sullivan near Wal-Mart after a project manager reported a vehicle theft. However, it wasn't a car or truck that was stolen. Sometime during the weekend, a 2006 938-G Caterpillar front end loader valued at $100,000 was taken from the site. The manager told Deputy Dodge the loader was driven through the east side security fence and has not been seen since.

On Tuesday, the owner of the company rented a helicopter to try and locate the 40,000 pound machine by air, however they were unsuccessful. The manager told deputies the machine was locked, but a universal Caterpillar key could have been used to steal it.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for anyone who has information that leads to an arrest in this case. You can remain anonymous.

If you know where the loader is, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or visit their website: www.crimestoppersinlandnorthwest.org
