NILE, WA - The Nile community may sleep easier at night knowing there's one more patrol car looking after their neighborhoods.

This is the first citizen's patrol car for the Nile and Naches communities.

Citizen's patrol is a volunteer-based program with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.Volunteers said they'll use the new patrol car to be an extra pair of eyes and ears along White Pass and Chinook Pass.

This is the sixth citizen patrol car in the county. Volunteers said it's a great day for the program and a great day for community members.

"That's what they {community members} like to see," said Steve Nevens with Citizen's Patrol. "They like to see the presence of a patrol car up here. It just makes them feel more secure in their surroundings up here."

The Yakima Police Department donated the patrol car. The police department, sheriff's office and citizen's patrol program say it's important to  work together to ensure the safety of the community.
