Have You Tried This Popular New Drink? Make Kombucha Yourself!

Posted: Updated:
KHQ.COM - Kombucha has become a very popular drink recently with dozens of flavors to choose from. My personal favorite is the Synergy Organic and Raw Kombucha with Chia Seeds. What I love about the drink is that it tastes great, is low in calories and sugar, completely natural and has a variety of health benefits.

While "Kombucha" sounds like a really fancy word, it's really just another name for fermented tea. Kombucha contains high levels of antioxidants, b-vitamins, probiotics and glucaric acid. Other health benefits include:

*liver detoxification
*improved pancreas function
*increased energy
*better digestion
*improved mood (helps with anxiety/depression)
*kills Candida (yeast)
*helps nutrient assimilation”

I love the Kombucha that has Chia seeds in it for all the added nutrients and health benefits as well. Chia seeds contain essential fatty acids alpha-linolenic and linoleic acid, mucin, strontium, 30% protein, Vitamins A, B, E, and D, and minerals including calcium, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, iron, iodine, copper, zinc, sodium, magnesium, manganese, niacin, thiamine, silicon, and anti-oxidants.

Now, while this drink is delicious and a great addition to your every day diet, it can get a little spendy as each bottle costs just under $4.00, less if you can find it on sale.

So, if you are looking to become a regular drinker of Kombucha and you have some time, it really is not that hard to make Kombucha yourself!

Really, all you need is:

*1 gallon glass jar, no lid
*adhesive aquarium thermometer
*piece of cotton fabric to cover the top
*1 cup sugar
*6-8 black / green tea bags
*starter SCOBY
*2 weeks
*bottles...

If you try it, make sure to let us know what you think!

It's an issue many counties are dealing with, overcrowding in the jails. And it's an issue the Kootenai county commissioners say they've been trying to correct over the years with bond elections. "we have a chronic problem with overcrowding. In 2013, we spent more than 900 thousand dollars to send inmates out of county to find housing," said county commissioner Dan Green.  >>
