SPOKANE, Wash. - 15-year-old Ryan Holyk, who was hit by a Spokane Valley Deputy's vehicle back in May, passed away Wednesday night.

Holyk had been in the hospital ever since he was hit by Deputy Joseph Bodman's patrol car at Sprague and Vista on May 23rd. Bodman was heading westbound on Sprague to assist with an arrest in a domestic violence case when he struck Ryan Holyk, who was riding his bike near the intersection.

Witnesses say the deputy swerved to miss the boy, but clipped him on the bike and sent him spinning. Witnesses also tell us the deputy did not have his emergency lights on but that he appeared to be going the speed limit. Deputy Bodman says he had a green light when he crossed the intersection.

Holyk had been in the hospital ever since, and through updates posted on his Facebook support page set up by his family, appeared to be making progress in his recovery. However, Ryan's mom posted late Wednesday night that the last few days had been a struggle and Ryan actually had a stroke on Saturday night. Holyk's mom praised the staff at Sacred Heart, but said Ryan lost his fight and was removed from his ventilator.

Holyk's mom also mentioned that Ryan's organs were donated.

"Everyone has been so wonderful. I could not ask for a better community. From the kind words to the amazing acts of kindness you all have blown me away. We have an astounding community. Ryan has been struggling the last few days. He actually had a stroke Saturday night. We've been trying really hard to control the swelling in his brain and to regulate his sodium levels. The staff at sacred has been phenomenal; I could not ask for better care for my baby. Unfortunately...we lost our fight tonight and had to remove Ryan from his ventilator.Althoughh I am heartbroken, I am so very proud of him, because we decided to donate his organs, and I can have a small bit of peace knowing that someone's family is experiencing a miracle right now. Thank you all so much.

Love,

Ryan's Mom"

There is no word yet on how this may impact the investigation.

Our thoughts go out to Ryan's entire family.
