RICHLAND, WA - A road extension to connect Kennewick's Center Parkway and Richland's Tapteal Drive got the go-ahead from the state.

The State Utilities and Transportation Commission agreed with local leaders who say the extension will improve emergency response times, reduce traffic back-ups, and help business development in the growing area.

"There's been limited access to that area, which has kind of stymied some of that progress. So getting that connection and better access will hopefully spur some more development in that area," Jeff Peters, of Richland's Public Works Department, explained.

The extension will include 800 feet of road where there are currently railroad tracks. The tracks are planned to be removed for the road project.
