Greatest Spokane Indian of All Time Finalists Announced: VOTE NOW

The search to find the greatest Spokane Indian of All Time has come down to No. 3 Carlos Beltran vs. No. 4 Ron Cey The search to find the greatest Spokane Indian of All Time has come down to No. 3 Carlos Beltran vs. No. 4 Ron Cey
SWX's search to find the Greatest Spokane Indian of All Time has come down to its final round with Carlos Beltran and Ron Cey advancing to face off in one final poll. Voting will close before the Indians Opening Day at Avista Stadium vs. the Eugene Emeralds live on SWX at 6:30 p.m. PDT.

No. 3 seed Carlos Beltran and No. 4 seed Ron Cey both upset higher seeded opponents. Beltran defeated All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler, while Cey took down 1974 National League MVP and this contest's No. 1 seed Steve Garvey to roll into the championships.

One of the newest members of the Bronx Bombers, Beltran took down Kinsler with over a 21-percent lead win polls closed at midnight on Sunday, June 8. Beltran racked up 65.3 percent of the votes after jumping out to an early lead by last Thursday, June 5, even though Kinsler currently leads all 2B in the 2014 MLB All-Star voting, including the Seattle Mariner's $240-million man Robinson Cano. While in Spokane Beltran hit .270 with 29 RBI, 29 runs, an OPS of .791 and 7 home runs. Not a perfect line, but enough for the Kansas City Royals to keep moving Beltran up the ladder. Eventually the Puerto Rican outfielder landed in the big's and he hasn't disappointed, appearing in eight All-Star games and winning three Gold Gloves, two Silver Slugger awards and earning the 1999 Rookie of the Year award in a 17-year career. But is it enough for him to be named the best-ever Spokane Indian?

The former Washington State standout and recent SWX interviewee Ron Cey has given new proof to the adage that Cougars don't lose online polls, beating Garvey by taking 62.7 percent of the votes in their matchup. A six-time All-Star and the 1981 World Series MVP, Cey had enough pull as a Coug and Tacoma native to trump the 10-time All-Star and Los Angeles Dodgers  all-time great, Garvey. When comparing the stats it made sense, Cey was impressive as he climbed the ladder to join the Dodgers despite following a 1970 Indians team that sent almost it's whole starting roster to Los Angeles. The Penguin finished with a .328 batting average, 123 RBI, 85 R, 32 HR and an OPS of .988, prompting a call up to the majors later in the 1971 season. It was Garvey moving to first base after Wes Parker retired following the 1972 season that opened up a spot for Cey at third in 1973, also creating the combination of Garvey, Cey, Davey Lopes at second and Bill Russell at shortstop that proved to be the longest tenured infield in MLB history, culminating in the World Series win in '81. But the question remains, does Cey's career warrant the title of Greatest Spokane Indian of All-Time?

This is it. The championship round is in your hands! Who will win it all? Who will you name as the Greatest Spokane Indian of All Time? Vote in the poll below... NOW!
