Explosion Reported at Plum Creek Mill in Columbia Falls

COLUMBIA FALLS -

Flathead County authorities said that explosions and a fire have been reported at a fiberboard plant in Columbia Falls.

Sheriff Chuck Curry said that details are still emerging, but flames and thick plumes of smoke could be seen from the Plum Creek Timber Company plant.

Plum Creek spokeswoman Kathy Budinick said company officials are unsure of the cause and could not confirm whether any of the up to 50 workers are missing.

Budinick said Plum Creek is working with public safety officials to contain the situation and make sure everyone is safe.

The other woman was identified as 50-year-old Michelle Lynn Carlin, the daughter of Raetta and Richard Carlin.
