Indians Continue Hot Start, Improve to 3-0

Posted: Updated:

AVISTA STADIUM - The Spokane Indians beat the Eugene Emeralds 5-2, improving to 3-0 to start the 2014 season.

The Emeralds managed to strike first when Felipe Blanco sent the first pitch of the second inning over the wall in left-center field for a 1-0 lead.

Spokane would respond with a strong bottom half of the inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Charles Moorman scored an RBI ground out which sent Marcus Greene home from third. Eduard Pinto continued his hot start to the season next with a two RBI single to center field, scoring Zach Cone and Seth Spivey. Indians took a 3-1 lead after two innings of play.

The Indians would add to that lead with an RBI single from Alberto Triunfel in the third and a Zach Cone home run to left field in the sixth inning. The Indians held a 5-1 lead after six innings and that would be more than enough.

Pitcher Derek Thompson struck out five while allowing only one run in five innings in his first outing with the Spokane Indians.

Spokane will look to complete the four game sweep on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Avista Stadium.
