KHQ.COM - KHQ MD Alert! According to Idaho's Department of Health, West Nile Virus has been detected in Idaho, and mosquitoes infected with the virus have been found in Payette County on the western side of the state. This is the first detection of the virus this season. In 2006, Idaho had the most cases of West Nile Virus in America with 1,000 people infected, causing 23 deaths.

Last summer, 40 human cases were reported in 16 countries with two deaths. The virus is transferred by mosquitoes and symptoms include fever, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes and body rashes among others. If you fear you may have any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.

One area in particular has been swamped by pesky mosquitoes this summer. KHQ has received many complaints and stories from Omak residents who say the mosquito population is completely out of control this year. Residents of Omak are extra frustrated with the city about this problem because the city claims they do not have money to spray this year.
