SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane Police say detectives have solved an 18 month old homicide case.

On Monday, police referred a 1st Degree Murder charge to the Prosecutor's office for 31-year-old Bud Ray Brown. Police believe Brown was involved in the December 2012 murder of David "Brandon" Deponte. Deponte was found dead in an alley near Bridge and Cannon from several gunshot wounds, and police say they have been working for a year and a half to find the person responsible. They now believe that person is Bud Ray Brown.

Detectives say Brown shot Deponte because of a dispute over another woman the night before the homicide.

Brown is currently in Federal prison in Coleman, Florida on an unrelated charge. Police say he will return to Spokane to appear on the Murder charge.

Police also announced a warrant will be issued for 28-year-old Alicia C. Sweet for 1st Degree Rendering Criminal Assistance related to Deponte's death. Detectives believe Sweet misled them during the investigation and assisted Brown (who was her boyfriend at the time) in getting rid of the gun used in the murder.

Anyone with information on Sweet’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
