Niki Sibley's At It Again! Running The Wonderland Trail In 3 Days For Crohn's Disease

Posted: Updated:
SPOKANE, Wash. - Niki Sibley was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2012. Instead of letting this disease take control of her life, Crohn's has given her fuel to live her life to the fullest. Last year she ran across Washington and she did it in 12 days. She also ran for 90 miles in 24 hours to support Amber Hanson, who also has Crohn's Disease. She is now preparing for her next adventure! On Aug. 18th, she will run the Wonderland Trail in 3 days! This trail typically takes 10-14 days.

You can also follow Niki on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/SolePowered?fref=ts or by searching "Sole Powered."

The Wonderland Trail is an approximately 93 mile hiking trail that circumnavigates Mount Rainier in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington. The trail goes over many ridges of Mount Rainier for a cumulative 22,000 feet of elevation gain. The trail was built in 1915. An estimated 200 to 250 people a year complete the entire trail with several thousand others doing shorter sections of it. The average time taken to complete the entire trip is 10 to 14 days.

Here is a poem Niki Sibley recently wrote as she prepares for her next run. For Niki, CROHNS stands for "Constatnly Running On Hope With Niki's Story."

"My name is Niki and this is my story…

In 2012 I received a Crohn’s diagnosis.

Who cares about statistics? I’ll make my own prognosis.

Crohn’s is scary. Crohn’s is cruel.

It does not control me. I use it as fuel.

I’ve changed what it means. Right down to the letter.

It’s still spelled the same, but my version is better.

Hope is my weapon. Running my tool.

Belief in thyself and hard work are my rules.

August 18th I’ll hit the Wonderland Trail.

It will surely be a battle, but I will prevail.

My trek will then continue up the mountain to Camp Muir.

I’ll be running, I’ll be climbing, I’ll be fighting for a cure.

While creating IBD awareness is my main intent.

I’m taking donations too. Consider it money well spent."
