SPOKANE, Wash. -

A new program allows travelers to get through airport security faster.

TSA Pre-Check is an option at 118 airports in the U.S.

Passengers can apply online, and then come in person to a site in Spokane to show proof of citizenship and ID. All you have to do is pass a criminal background check, and once you are approved you will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) in two to three weeks.

The application fee is $85, which is good for five years. That comes out to $17 a year.

Once you have your Known Traveler Number, you’re good to go! You can go through shorter lines, leave your shoes and a light jacket on while going through security, and leave liquids and your laptop in your carry-on.

Everyone is still required to go through security to get on a plane, and TSA does not think that this new program will make traveling any less safe.

If you are interested in applying, you can head to https://universalenroll.dhs.gov.
