Dave Law's Fishing Forecast: Omak Lake Lahonton Cutthroat

Posted: Updated:
Omak Lake (12 miles east of Omak) is a beauty for both the scenery and the fishing. This nugget boasts some of the best Lahonton Cutthroat Trout fishing in the Pacific Northwest and we experienced it firsthand in early June. The alkaline nature of the water is ideal for growing these game fish and anglers stand a good chance of landing one at least 5 pounds during the day. There are a lot of 14"-18" fish to provide oodles of fun until then. Needlefish are popular lures, but I found that pink or white clousers (Yep, the same ones used for bone fishing in the Caribbean) worked great around 20-30 feet deep on fast sink lines. There are special reservation fishing rules (No bait fishing, ONLY artificial lures & flies) and a Colville Tribal permit is required to fish there. This was my first trip there & guaranteed not to be the last either.
