SPOKANE, Wash. -- The last Spokane Indians team to start 10-1 was the 1911 squad that recorded a 13-1 start for the best ever in the history of the team. This year's club became the second team to reach such a feat with 7-3 win over the Boise Hawks at Avista Stadium on Tuesday, June 24.

The Indians (10-1) crossed the plate first in the bottom of the second inning after the Hawks' (4-8) starter Ben Wells walked Marcus Greene and Zach Cone, then balked to put runners on second and third. With one out Spokane first baseman Fernando Vivili hit a sharp ground ball to second base to score Greene and give the Indians a 1-0 lead.

Boise closed the gap quickly, scoring in the top of the third on a Jeffrey Baez RBI single to center, bringing in Varonex Cuevas who had doubled to deep center earlier in the inning.

Luke Tendler didn't like that, so with two outs in the bottom of the third, the Indians' right fielder smacked a triple to deep right-center field to score Jose Trevino after he had advanced to second on the throwing error by Hawks' third baseman Jesse Hodges. The Indians would take 2-1 into the fourth inning.

Spokane extended on its lead in the fifth when the Hawks went to the bullpen and brought in Jasvir Rakkar. Eduard Pinto led off with a double and Alberto Triunfel followed up with a home run to left field, just missing the Gus Johnson Ford sign, to give the Indians a three-run gap. Marcus Greene would single to left and steal second, setting up the RBI single to center for former first-round pick Zach Cone, and complete a three-run inning for Spokane.

Triunfel wound up 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Indians starting pitcher Richelson Pena only gave up the one early run and four hits over six innings pitched, fanning five on his way to his second win of the season.

The Hawks got to Spokane relief pitcher Luis Pollorena in a hurry in the top of the seventh inning. The second-year side-arm lefty from Laredo, Texas walked designated hitter Mark Malave and then gave up a two-run blast to left field to Hodges. Back-to-back ground outs to shortstop would get Pollorena and the Indians out of the inning, but Boise had cut the lead to 5-3.

Hodges home run and the seventh-inning stretch would inspire Spokane's bats to wake up one more time. Triunfel and Tendler would both single and then complete the double steal to put men on second and third, leading to an intentional walk for Greene. With the bases loaded Cone would walk and bring in Triunfel. With the bags still juiced Juremi Profar hit a sac fly to right center to bring in Tendler and secure a 7-3 lead for the Indians.

Tendler finished the game 2-4, with 1 RBI and a run scored, While Zach Cone went 1-2 with 2 walks and 2 RBI.

After giving up the home run to Hodges, Pollorena settled in to finish the game and continue the Indians streak that is the best start since 1911. The last time the Boise Hawks lost seven or more games was in July of 2010 when they lost 8 straight.

Both teams will wrap up the five-game series tomorrow, June 25, at 6:30 p.m. PDT at Avista Stadium
